Hublot along with its UAE distributor, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, hosted a Match of Friendship in Dubai on April 15.
The match took place at Dubai Opera’s ‘Hanging Gardens’, the first time this location has been used for a football match.
Footballing icon (and Hublot ambassador) Pelé coached his first football team in Dubai, while Marcelli Lippi managed the opposing team. It’s the second time that Hublot has brought together legends of football, having hosted a similar event at Baselworld, where Maradona and José Mourinho presided over teams that included Usain Bolt on Maradona’s team.
In Dubai, Pele’s team comprised Dida, Robbie Keane, Serginho, Marcel Desailly and Emirati footballer Majed Hassan. Marcello Lippi’s team boasted Marco Amelia, Marco Materazzi, Gianluca Zambrotta, Christian Karembeu and Michel Salgado.
The match time was kept by the new Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM smart watch.
According to protocol, the two teams exchanged pennants at the start of the game. Going beyond pure ritual, this was a symbol of a friendly game held under the banner of friendship. At half-time, a freestyle football demonstration confirmed that anything can be done with a football.
The match ended an an 11-11 draw.
