This November, the first Chopard Classic Car Rally unfurls in Dubai, bringing classic car enthusiasts and drivers together for a first-of-its-kind drive through the Emirates
“People say that lovers of fine cars also have a great weakness for fine timepieces and vice versa. In both cases, sporting elegance and outstanding performance are especially important,” says the man behind the event.
Classic cars, haute horlogerie watches, one’s own vineyard. It’s hard not to envy the lifestyle of Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, a man for whom only the very best is acceptable, whether in the watches made by his company, Chopard, or in myriad other aspects of his everyday life. Every day to him, but exceptional to everyone else. Take his cars, for example. Scheufele’s personal car collection reads like an automotive Who’s Who and includes rare Aston Martins, Porsches and Ferraris – models so uncommon in number they barely make double digits are to be found in neat, gleaming rows in his garage. You can read all about those in our latest edition of Revolution Middle East, subscribe here.)
Will other drivers stand a chance against Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and his racing legend co-pilot, Jacky Ickx?
While his garage is by invitation only, there’s a chance to see an array of exceptional classic cars at close quarters, thanks to a new event taking place in Dubai. This November 10 and 11, the Swiss watch manufacture expands its automotive love affair to the Middle East, with the first ever Dubai Chopard Classic Rally, co-sponsored by Emaar and Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.
Chopard has sponsored the Mille Miglia since 1988 and the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique since 2002 and the relationship between Chopard and cars has an irresistible synergy thanks to the common values that underpin their respective technologies and a shared passion for mechanical engineering.
A unique opportunity to immerse oneself in this rarefied work of antique autos, the Dubai Chopard Classic Rally roars into action in November. Classic cars will set off from the heart of Downtown Dubai on a two-day rally that will take drivers and participants on a route through Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, with the Hatta and Jebel Jais mountains as the suitably rugged backdrop.
Marking the first Chopard Classic Rally, Chopard launches the L.U.C Time Traveler One – Time of the Desert. Produced in a 20-piece limited series with a refined sand colour dial recalling the golden sun-soaked dunes of the UAE, two of the pieces will be offered to the first place winners of the Chopard Classic Rally Dubai 2017.
“There has always been a historical relation between the world of fine watchmaking and classic cars; both use highly mechanical components that are assembled in such a way to give power to an engine that is presented in beautiful cases. Some of the most iconic examples of classic cars will be on show during this prestigious event and Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons is proud to support the first chapter of the Chopard Classic Car Rally in the Middle East, says Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, Chief Commercial Office of Seddiqi Holding and a co-partner in the rally event.

Scheufele, always happiest when he’s close to the action will himself be taking part, competing alongside legendary motorsport champion Jacky Ickx, and the pair join around 30 teams who will all drive their vintage automobiles through the enchanting scenery of the UAE deserts, mountains and roads.
