Reaffirming its exceptional savoir faire in watchmaking, Chopard’s haute horlogerie offering for 2017 includes a new edition of its iconic L.U.C Lunar One model.
The L.U.C Lunar One, when it was first presented in 2005, became an emblematic piece for the manufacture, testament to the full gamut of watchmaking skill housed under the L.U.C banner; itself the ambitious vision of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, who launched the high horology division of Chopard with the aim of creating watches exactly like the Lunar One. Featuring a rare self-winding perpetual calendar, 122-years accurate moon phase that exactly replicates the appearance of the moon, and elegant indicators for the hours, minutes and day/night, the watch expresses Chopard’s commitment to elegance.
The watch bears the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark and is also certified by the COSC, the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute.
Inside, the finely guilloché-worked movement epitomises the kind of finishing that is lavished on Chopard L.U.C watches, with bevelled bridges adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif, circular-grained baseplate, mirror-polished steel parts and regulator with swan’s neck adjustment offering peerless aesthetic achievement.
The beautiful royal blue galvanic blue dial, which is satin-finished and offset by a hand-sewn matte blue alligator strap, features the L.U.C logo in white at noon, large applied Roman numerals, three circular indications (at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock) with the date at noon. At 43mm in diameter and with a thickness of 6mm, the watch certainly has presence on the wrist yet despite the multiple indications and elaborate finishing it is intended to be worn and used – if only by the fortunate 100 gentlemen destined to own one of the highly limited pieces that are being released in this platinum and royal blue edition.
