The movement of the Tradition watches is based on a design originally created by Abraham-Louis Breguet and this collection was first introduced in 2005 and was previously focused solely on exceptional pieces – for men. So it’s exciting to see that Breguet has created a timepiece intended for its female fans, and a first look reveals a beautifully proportioned design and finishing that is the hallmark of haute horlogerie, Breguet-style. The barrel, a visual focal point of the piece, is hand-engraved with a gorgeous petal motif, and overlapping this at 12 o’ clock is a dial in white mother-of-pearl adorned with hand-crafted engine-turned clou de Paris hob nailing. An indisputably mechanical watch, the movement is on full view thanks to the small dial, which reveals rather than conceals. Nonetheless, the design allows for easy reading of the hours and minutes, thanks to its clear yet diligently decorated design. Behind and around it, the movement offers a fascinating glimpse into Breguet’s horological savoir faire. The watch, which has a pleasing 37mm diameter, is encased in rose gold and the bezel is set with 68 brilliant-cut diamonds. The case too, is subjected to Breguet’s unrelenting artistic attentions, with hand-finished elements such as a fluted case band. The crown is set with a ruby, adding a final touch of exquisite decadence to the piece that is sure to win Breguet the affections of female connoisseurs of haute horology.
